Calvary welcomes Dr. David Wells as guest speaker

Calvary welcomes Dr. David F. Wells, Distinguished Research Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts, to the pulpit on Sunday, April 18. Dr. Wells will preach at the 9:45 AM and 6:00 PM worship services: 9:45 AM "The World's Most Famous Conversion" Acts 9:1-19 6:00 PM "Two Ways to the Future" Genesis 4:1-16 Dr. Wells' most recent book, The Courage to be Protestant: Truth-lovers, Marketers, and Emergents in the Post-modern World, will be available for purchase in the Galleria after services. About David Wells Dr. Wells was born in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and studied at the University of Cape Town, where he later came to faith and sensed God's call to Christian ministry. His educational background includes: Bachelor of Divinity degree from London University, England (1966), Master of Theology in church history from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois (1967), and Doctor of Philosophy degree in theology from the University of Manchester, England (1969). He was appointed a research fellow at Yale Divinity School from 1973 to 1974.
In 1985, Dr. Wells was elected to the American Theological Society and was appointed a Distinguished Lecturer for the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity in London, England. He served as a member of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, and for many years he has worked to provide theological education and basic preaching tools for Third World pastors. From 1989–1991, he was the recipient of a major grant for Senior Scholars from the Pew Charitable Trusts. He served as the Academic Dean of Gordon-Conwell's Charlotte, NC campus from 1998–2000.
Dr. Wells is the author or editor of fifteen books, as well as numerous dictionary articles, essays, and book reviews. In addition to his research at Gordon-Conwell, he is currently editing a Genesis–Revelation set of 600 daily Bible studies for the Rafiki Foundation, Inc., which establishes Christian orphanages and schools in Africa.
Dr. Wells and his wife, Jane, live in South Hamilton, Massachusetts.
